Lynn Knowles (Chair)
Lynn’s professional background was originally in housing advice. During the 1970s in 1980s, she moved into tenants’ rights and co-operative housing, where she set up and managed housing co-ops in Hammersmith and Islington. In the early 1990s she retrained as a solicitor, becoming a partner at Bindmans LLP, a well-known central London human rights law firm. She is currently head of medical negligence and has been on the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel since 2000. She has a lot of experience in financial management, staff management, change management and legal aid. She has lived in Hanwell since 1985.

Peter Bartram (Vice chair)
Peter Bartram has worked across London as an immigration solicitor for almost thirty years and currently has his own practice in Northfields, Ealing. After qualifying at an Acton firm in 1981, Peter worked in community settings throughout the 1980s, beginning at a community centre in south-east London as a housing lawyer. From there he moved on to immigration at the Afro Asian Advisory Service in Southwark from 1985-87, before working jointly at Southall Law Centre and Hounslow and Hillingdon law centres as a senior solicitor and a temporary supervising solicitor, respectively. In 1990, he moved into private practice, establishing his own immigration solicitors practice in Hounslow before moving the firm to its current location in Northfields.

He was a member of the Immigration Law Practicioners Association from its founding in 1984, serving on its Executive Committee for six years in the 1990s. He also acted as a major provider of training to immigration lawyers until 2005 Peter has over 25 years’ experience of managing legal aid work in tribunals and courts, with frequent appearances as an advocate at immigration tribunal hearings.

Simon Mullings
Simon has worked as a housing lawyer and supervisor in private practice for the last 14 years. He has extensive experience in LSC contract tenders, housing possession court duty scheme advice and representation, and has conducted training on contract compliance as well as housing and community care law and practice. He is a long standing member of the Trustee Board of Waltham Forest Citizens Advice Bureau and is chair of the Personnel and Joint Negotiating committees. He is also an authorised Debt Relief Order intermediary.

Steve Lee (Company Secretary)
Steve has a long background in a wide range of advice sector organisations as an advisor, manager and campaigner. He has worked at Hillingdon Law Centre, Carers UK and Youth Access. Steve was instrumental in the development of Just Rights, the campaign for fair access to legal services for children and young people. He is passionate about access to justice. Steve has lived in Ealing for more than 20 years.

Sue James (Treasurer)
Sue has been a housing solicitor for 22 years has worked in a number of law centres and private practice. In addition she was a mental health solicitor representing the most vulnerable people detained under the Mental Health Act. As well as undertaking case work she has a strategic role in the running of Hammersmith Law Centre where she is currently employed as the responsible legal officer.

She is a trustee for Hammersmith Mencap. Sue has lived in Ealing for more than 20 years.
